|Synopsis||Clive learns that a TV company is to make a documentary. The documentary will follow his amateur theatre company’s progress in putting on a production of King Lear. Clive has landed the title role and sees this as an opportunity to break into “real” acting. Unfortunately rehearsals have not gone well. Clive’s “madness” is far from convincing. In a bid to improve his performance Clive visits Victor, a onetime member of the amateur theatre group. Although disliked by Clive, Victor has something that Clive needs to make his performance credible… firsthand experience of being sectioned under the Mental Health Act. A master class in madness ensues.
“Learning Lear” was workshopped and performed by a professional cast at The Unity Theatre in Liverpool in 2001|
